BTDarters'
Frequently Asked Questions

What is BTDarters doing to help protect the environment?

BTDarters is doing a number of things to protect the environment. Firstly, BTDarters does not collect fish from areas where the netting of fish is prohibited (fish sanctuaries, wildlife preserves, etc.), thus insuring that our native fish will be present in their natural habitats for future generations to enjoy. Secondly, for some of the fish we sell, we offer Location Verification Certificates™. These can be helpful to the aquarist interested in fish conservation because he or she can be assured that the fish they purchased came from the same location, insuring a "clean" genetic stock. Thirdly, BTDarters offers Re-homing™ for fish that a customer may no longer want or be able to care for. In this way BTDarters helps assure that the fish will not be released into an environment where they may not be native. Fourthly, BTDarters keeps close tabs on the numbers of fish that we collect for sale from each location. We only take as many fish from each location as the population will allow and still be able to sustain itself. Fifthly, BTDarters ships a document with every order that alerts the customer to the danger of releasing their BTDarters livestock or plants into the environment.

In these ways, BTDarters is insuring that darters will be available in their native habitat for generations to come.
