Spawning:
 This species is a mop-spawner. Spawning occurs in June-July. Males have longer and pointier dorsal and anal fins, whereas females’ fins are shorter and rounder.
Notes:

This fish may be kept outdoors in ponds to control mosquito populations as the fish congregate near the surface and will feed on the larvae. The fish also like to hide under floating aquatic vegetation. Please follow all federal, state, and local regulations concerning stocking fish in ponds.
